Brian Slagter's grandfather, John Slagter, for many years was a general superintendent for VanderVeen Construction. When Brian's father completed four years in the Navy, he returned home to the company's first project, which was half completed. The year was 1955. Brian's grandfather and father worked side by side every day until later in the 1960's when John Slagter retired.
